Are you engineering a better and more explosive relationship with your spouse? Many couples say that they want more from their unions but are simply not willing to work at it. My suggestion… “Use it or lose it.” Know that your relationship will become old and rusty and you (Yes even you) could be replaced leaving you sitting there on the outside looking in with all of your “wulda” “shoulda” and “coulda” blame frustration and doubt.

Change your plan

A wise man once told me that you are a combination of the books you read and the people that you hang around. I would add to this excellent insight that you are also what you look at and listen to. In other words if you are not having the type of impact that you desire with your loved one, change your resources. If you are not reading the Bible… Shame, shame, shame! Get after it! Start reading today. Email me if you want some good scriptures or an outline that we sometimes send out for couples.

Find some other books that are willing help you improve. Look for books that are Christian or Jewish in nature. Stay away from the far-out new age stuff. Some author suggestions, John Maxwell and Rabbi Shalom Arush just to name two of my favorites. Find someone that speaks to you. If you don’t like to read then try audible.com that is a cool alternative.

If your coworkers or relatives are a negative force and seem to be pulling you down GET OUT! You need to find some friends that are focused on the same things that you are. If you cannot find any right now then seek the face of God and ask Him to place some folks in your path.

The bottom line is that if you want to be better, then you need to look for some other folks that want to be better too. This will ultimately improve your relationship with Yahweh and with your Husband/Wife.

Learn how to troubleshoot with your sweetheart

Every conversation does not have to be an expatiation laden position fest. Here are some tips for more powerful communication:

Listen to what they are saying: If you are truly listening then you will be able to empathize and understand their position.

Open body language up: If you fold your arms and are looking down when they are talking or you butt in and cut them off this will send the message that what they have to say is not important.

Listen to the free podcast that is attached to this message. (at the top)

When you are in a very tight and unpredictable situation that requires your submission do you submit 100%? When you are faced with having to exchange your own desires for the desires of someone else how do you fare? Willingly and lovingly submitting your desires and will for the good of another is the basis for every good relationship. We get the foundation for this type of selfless service right out of the scriptures. Yahweh sets the standard by giving us His best, His unique Son Y’Shua who took on human flesh and walked among us. He taught us through His very life the true meaning of sacrifice and true service.

And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. – Isaiah 59:16

Y’Shua gives us the pattern of service as stated in John 13:12-17

When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. Do you understand what I have done for you? He asked them. You call me Teacher and Master and rightly so, for that is what I Am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things you will be blessed if you do them.

Do you submit your desires for the sake of your spouses? I am not talking about saying yes to your wife finally after weeks of questioning and finessing by her. I am not talking about saying yes to your husbands will with a frown on your face that sends the message of “It aint over buddy.”

I am taking about killing you your ego and truly submitting to the desires of your loved one. If you are truly a believer and you sincerely love the Master and want to follow Him, adopt His example:

He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” – Luke 22:42

When it was all on the line our Master, exchanges His will for you and I.

Let us continue to labor after the heart of Our Master and our Father.

Should we keep them reeled in tight, so that we are smothering them to death, this often leads to some wild repercussions when they are finally “free” to make their own choices. The other choice is that we give them too much leeway and then they are making way too many mistakes, which also retards their growth.
Quality time: definition-
“Time spent in giving another person one's undivided attention in order to strengthen a relationship, esp. with reference to working parents and their child or children.”
Question? Do you spend quality time with your children?
That’s one thing that should be made clear for those of us that are totally committed to training our children. Just because we are teaching and training our children (which is our God given right and biblical responsibility) we should not assume that this replaces the children’s need for relationship. We as parents have many responsibilities, one of the chief roles that we have as progenitors is to nourish our little ones. I feel like a remedy for success would look something like this:

I don’t know a homeschooling Dad and Mom that does not spend time in the first two bullets. However we all could remember to stay focused on the last bullet point. Children are all different. They have different likes and dislikes. Some like to play, some like to read, some like to do both. Some desire to do home projects with you(Dad or Mom).

We need to be listening and paying much attention to our children as we are bringing them up.

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. – Deuteronomy 6:7

** Previously recorded audio**

We often stress the need to do personal prayer here on ConfrontNation. And don’t get me wrong, that is so important. But you should also be focused on praying with your spouse. Think about it. Today, the Biblical Marriage is the most attacked institutions out there. With the ridiculous amount of divorces and separations occurring we might want to rethink our strategy of prayer.

Personal Prayer – for sure!

We know the power of personal prayer. I am a witness of the positive results when one gives his/her whole heart to YHWH. But consider Personal Prayer a platform for all other opportunities of communication with our King.

If we are just praying for ourselves and for our spouses in personal prayer, we are definitely doing some very good work but we will truly experience the benefit of Divine Assistance and marital strengthening when praying together as a couple. A few of reasons couples don’t pray together:

We are on two different schedules - Although this is a great “reason”, we should remember that prayer is like air to our lungs and marrow to our bones. Prayer to YHWH with our spouses is an affirmation of covenant and will give the relationship that added strength.

We don’t get along that well - Many couples are faking it. Acting like things are fine between each other. You might be one of them. Ask yourself the question, why don’t I desire to pray with my husband? He was good enough to marry, but he is not good enough to pray with?? So, get busy and humble yourself before YHWH and your hubby and get into prayer.

I don’t know how to pray - This is a classic one. We all know what Yashua did for His students in Matthew 6:9-14. He gave them the Divine outline for communication. Use this and follow the Psalms. If you need help or suggestions, give us a call here at ConfrontNation we will help you with some basic prayers that you can use as outlines as you are developing your prayer time with your honey.

In closing-

Prayer with the spouse is one of the main ways that you can destroy those strongholds that exist within the marital relationship. When something is happening in the spiritual, rest assured those who are in covenant with YHWH and have dedicated their marriage to His covenant can definitely knock out major strongholds. Why do you think that the Satan wants to destroy the Biblical family?

For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Messiah. -2 Corinthians 10:4-5

In this podcast Ed shares some of the topics that will be taught at the Marriage Seminar on February 5th 2012. One in particular is the Transactional Relationship vs. Covenant. Most people don’t realize that they operate their relationships more like a business instead of a marital union. There are some really cool activities that will be done in the seminar that will cause those that fully participate to experience growth in their relationships immediately.
